Revision Policy

For the first two essays of the quarter (the Summary Essay & the Source Evaluation Essay), I do allow revisions to be submitted after grades have been initially returned.  Revisions will be graded on their own merit against the grading rubric, regardless of what the original grade for the assignment was.  If, by some chance, a grade would end up being lower for a revision than the original submission, the original, higher grade will remain in place.  This almost never happens, though.  The maximum score a revision can earn is 90%.

Essays are eligible for revision if they meet the following criteria.

  1. the original essay was submitted on time
  2. the original essay scored lower than 90% of the assignment points possible
  3. the revision is submitted to the original assignment page by the stated revision deadline, generally a week after original grades are posted
  4. The revision includes a cover page that answers the 3 questions available below.

As mentioned in #4, I do require a cover page included with revisions.  Tell me your response to the following 3 questions:

  • what specific changes, additions, or subtractions did you make to the draft?
  • why did you make these changes?
  • how do you feel your work is improved as a result?
