Tracking and Reporting Tools

Academic Integrity

--------

The prevalence of online activities in today's university courses can create a false sense of secrecy. The fact is that virtually no computerized system is without logging capabilities, and academic dishonesty is easier to spot now than ever.

Did you know?

  • Canvas continually keeps a log of
    1. Every time you login
    2. Every page you visit
    3. Every time you take a test or submit an assignment
    4. Every browser and operating system you visit from
    5. Every message you send
    6. The times and IP addresses of each page view
    7. Analytic, graphical views of your performance over time in a given class.
  • Teachers have tools at their disposal for checking the originality of students' work against online databases, papers submitted in other classes, and the Internet.
  • Working professionals in a given field have been known to report academic integrity violations they are aware of.

These are just a few of the ways that incidents of academic dishonesty are identified at the university. Methods of tracking and detection are advanced enough that it is generally just as time consuming to try to evade them than it is to simply study or submit original work in the first place.
